VOLUNTEERING FOR THE ARC AND THE OP SHOP
The Arc
Volunteers are needed to help the Executive Director and the Assistant Director with a variety of light office duties including: organize books/catalogs, update and cross-check data lists, research potential grants, help plan fundraising event(s) etc. The Arc office is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Volunteers are also needed to work at special events such as Fund Fest, Craft Fairs, Yard Sales, or Fundraising Events.

The Op Shop
Volunteers needed to work with adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities either one-on-one or in small groups to help clients learn/practice the alphabet, numbers, telling time, counting money, reading, cursive writing, etc. The Op Shop is open Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
Individuals from the community are welcome to volunteer as well as college students needing community service hours, practicum placement, or internships.
Volunteers who are familiar with either Braille or American Sign Language would be welcome to work with with specific clients.

Teenage/Adult Canteen
Volunteers are welcome to help with Canteens at the Rec. Center. Canteens are supervised social activities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities aged 14 and up. Click on Events in the site navigator for the Canteen schedule.
Depending on the planned activity, volunteers can help with games, help serve refreshments, or just be a dance partner.
During the school year, Canteen is held twice a month at the Rec. Center in Westover Park, 305 South Dogwood Drive, Harrisonburg.
During the summer, Canteen moves out to Camp Still Meadows in Linville, VA for Music Under the Stars.
