Announcements
The Arc’s closings and delays are announced on TV3, local radio stations, and the Arc’s Facebook page.
Early Dismissal
When Harrisonburg and/or Rockingham County schools close early for bad weather during business hours, staff shall begin transporting participants to their residences at the time announced for the school closings.
If the city and county schools are operating on different closing schedules, the agency shall close at the earlier of the two announced school closings.
Families/caregivers of program participants shall be advised of the early dismissal time.
Delayed Openings
The Arc shall have a one (1) hour delayed opening if either the city or county school systems has a two (2) hour delay.
If the county is closed only the city participants are picked up. County participants may provide their own transportation.
Closings
The Arc follows Harrisonburg City Public Schools Weather Closings: If the city is closed the Arc is closed.
If the city is open and the county is closed, city residents shall be picked up at the regular time. County participants may provide their own transportation.
Extended Inclement Weather Situations
When the city schools reopen but county schools remain closed, county participants may provide their own transportation.
Closings When Schools Are Not in Session
The Program Directors and Transportation Coordinator shall make closing/delayed opening/early release decisions when schools are not in session.
Families/caregivers of program participants shall be advised of the closing/delayed opening/early release via telephone call by staff and public announcements TV3, local radio stations, and the Arc’s Facebook page.
Note: Drivers may cancel any pickup if they judge conditions are unsuitable for driving.
Staff Wages During Closings
If the city and county schools are closed, The Arc is closed for a Snow Day. A Snow Day is a day off without pay. Employees may choose to:
- Use a personal day in lieu of a day off without pay.
- Receive up to 5 hours pay for successful completion of Relias or other approved on-line training units.
- Work from home, completing work assigned by the Director of Supports Services or the Executive Director.
- Report to work for a staff workday if it is safe to do so.
If the city school system is open, The Arc is open. Employees who live in the county are expected to come in if it is safe to do so. If they cannot, or choose not to come in they may:
- Use vacation or personal leave.
- Take leave without pay.
- Receive up to 5 hours pay for successful completion of Relias or other approved on-line training units.
- Work from home, completing work assigned by the Director of Support Services or the Executive Director.
- If the Arc closes early or opens late due to weather conditions, staff shall be paid for a regular workday.
